SETTING

Place

The story took place alongside the coast or at the bay near the sea. The shore along the edge of the sea where people were likely to go when they come at the sea. The place is associated with different kinds of rocks where most of them are founded in the sea such as rough, pointed rocks, big dark rocks and big barrier rocks.

Time

The story took place during the summer time, and this was a holiday time were people came to visit the coast. This time the sunlight was always rising.

SUMMARY

Through the tunnel is a story about an English young boy. His name was Jerry and he was eleven years old. During the holiday time, and it was a summer time, Jerry and his mother went to visist one of the country unstated in the story. His mother was a widow. They were living nearly to the sea when they went for the holiday. One morning, the first day of the holiday, Jerry and his mother were passing alongside the coast and this was a day of routine swimming and sunbathing. There were rocks at this place in the sea and Jerry told his mother that he would like to go and have a look at those rocks. She let him go because she thought that his son is old enough to be safe without her. He went there in the sea and he started to swim because he was a good swimmer. He saw some boys at the other side of the rocks and they were speaking a language that he does'nt understand but he was so happy with them. When he was at the rocks, he touched the wall of the rocks and those rocks were salty. This salt was so much painingful in his eyes that he could not see as his eyes were very paining. When he went back to his mother, he asked her to buy for him swimming goggles to help him when he is swimming and she bought him the goggles. Two days before they left the place to go back to their country, Jerry's chest was very hurting and he was always dreaming about water. Jerry was having a problem wereby his nose was bleeding so badly that he turned dizzy. His mother come closer to him and looked at him but Jerry was strained and his eyes were looking glazed and his mother was woried. At last, his mother told him that she don't think if he can be able to swim anymore that day. She was ready for the battle of wills, but Jerry gave in at once and this was no longer of the least importance to go to the bay.

MAIN CHARACTER

Jerry

He is a young boy with eleven years old and he is a English citizen. Jerry likes swimming so much and he was a good swimmer-young boy. He can be able to stay under water for two to three minutes at least and he can swim like a fish, therefore he became a good diver. Jerry was staying with his mother and she was a widow. Jerry was a very friendly young boy and loves his mother very much. He likes smilling as he was always smilling to his mother.
